of creeds, or a theological system. Eliphaz’s theology was accurate and in the main we can have no argument with it. His error lies in the use he made of it. His system did not take into account the possibility that Job was ‘innocent’—not that he was sinless (Job never claimed any such thing), but that he had not committed any particular sin which explained the reason for the severity of this judgement. Eliphaz had no room in his system for the story, as recorded in John 9, of the man born blind.
